A Malaysian citizen that passed by Brunei Darussalam on transit from Sabah to Sarawak was found positive with COVID-19 in Bintulu on September 15.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar assured that a thorough investigation was carried out.

“When he was found positive, we were informed about it. So, we did an investigation. He transited Brunei but did not make any stopover. He only became symptomatic after arrival in Bintulu,” the minister said yesterday.

“As you are aware, there is still a rampant spread of COVID-19 so we are monitoring neighbouring countries. Sabah, in the past week alone, has more than 500 cases. We will continue to monitor this and decide if we need to impose more restrictions on people transiting Brunei.”
