Gathering marks school’s 50th anniversary

The Perdana Wazir Secondary School (SMPW) Parents and Teachers Association organised a gathering for teachers, staff members, support staff, former principals and alumni in celebration of the school’s 50th anniversary on Thursday.

Acting Director at the Department of Schools Zainal Abidin bin Haji Kepli was the guest of honour.

Former permanent secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Paduka Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal who was the school’s second local principal from 1982 to 1984 along with five other former principals also attended.

The event began with Maghrib prayer, followed by recitations of Surah Yaasiin, Tahlil and Doa Kesyukuran before concluding with Isyak prayer.

The guests were shown videos chronicling events which shaped the school.

The occasion was also an opportunity to officially launch SMPW’s ‘Wall of Learning’ and 50 Years Journey Timeline, which provides a platform for students to learn through interaction with artistic set pieces along the walls of the school corridor.

The guest of honour presented certificates to the representatives of several departments in acknowledgement of their murals, including the Department of Malay Language, the Department of English, the Department of Health and Science, the Department of Art and Technology, the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Ugama, the Department of Humanities and the Department of Pre-Vocational.

A prize was also handed out to the Department of Humanities for the most interactive mural which was received by the department’s representative Leong Fung Lan.

The event concluded with a cake-cutting by the guest of honour with current and former principals.
