Entrepreneurship as means for self-sustenance

Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through its Islamic Economics and Finance Faculty (FEKIm) organised a two-day entrepreneurship workshop that concluded yesterday with a closing ceremony at the university’s auditorium in Jalan Gadong.

The workshop aimed to enhance awareness on self-sufficiency and the choice of the entrepreneurship sector as means for self-sustenance.

Dean of FEKIm Dr Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani, who is also the event’s chairperson highlighted the workshop’s significance to be part of the faculty’s annual activity as a platform to disseminate vital information especially for the faculty’s third year students, to prepare them for their compulsory 20-week Entrepreneurship Project.

A total of 58 FEKIm students took part in the workshop that was facilitated by a business advisor of higher education for the Entrepreneurship Programme at LiveWIRE Brunei Sdn Bhd.

According to UNISSA in a statement, the workshop was designed to open the minds of the participants to earning an income, while exercising high level of commitment and discipline before delving into entrepreneurship.

The workshop provided them the exposure on basic requirements, techniques to expand through systematic, competitive and resilient business plans, finance management, operation costs, management theory and marketing.

UNISSA’s Assistant Rector (Academic) Associate Professor Dr Siti Sara binti Haji Ahmad was the guest of honour during the closing ceremony.

Meanwhile, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between FEKIm UNISSA, LiveWIRE Brunei Sdn Bhd and Yassar Advisory Services (B) Sdn Bhd. The signing will see opportunities for the expansion of the scope of cooperation in different areas particularly expertise, experience and skills.

Signing on behalf of UNISSA was the Dean of FEKIm, while LiveWIRE Brunei Sdn Bhd was represented by its Chairman and In-Country Value Manager at Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd (BSP) Hajah Rosita binti Haji Hassan. Yassar Advisory Services (B) Sdn Bhd was represented by its Executive Director Haji Aidil Bahrin bin Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Mohd Salleh.
