Downpours kill two, injure seven in northern Vietnam

HANOI (XINHUA) – Heavy downpours hit some northern provinces of Vietnam over the past few days, leaving two people dead and seven injured, the country’s Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said yesterday.

Two people in northern Phu Tho province, aged six and 37, died in a house collapse while seven from the same locality were injured by the fall of houses’ walls, said the committee.

The downpours damaged 73 houses, 267 hectares of rice and 484 hectares of crops, according to the committee, adding that three bridges collapsed, with the landslide volume estimated to be over 16,300 cubic metres.
