Company fined BND500 for causing waste spillage

A local company in Seria was issued a BND500 compound fine by the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board for violating the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30, Section 12 yesterday.

The company had left a grease trap unmaintained resulting in overflowing and spillage of waste into the nearby public drainage, carries a foul odour, according to a statement by the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board.

The company was given seven days to settle the fine.

Failing to do so would result in the case being brought to court.

If found guilty, a BND1,000 fine or one month’s imprisonment will be imposed.

A BND3,000 or imprisonment of not exceeding three months will be levied for subsequent offences.

The Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board reminded the public and companies to ensure the cleanliness of the surrounding environment and to dispose waste at designated dumping sites.
