Kimberly Goh Yi Yuen from Chung Ching Middle School recently won first place in a local competition of the Lions International Peace Poster Contest 2020-2021, conducted by the Lions Club of Belait.
In second place was Nicole Anndrea Jaena from St John’s School, while Amelie Megan Lo Mei Xing from Chung Ching Middle School was placed third.
Meanwhile, Amanda Layun Sigar, Aleya anak Claxairi, Nur Naya Alyaa binti Haji Mohd Nizam from Chung Ching Middle School, and Koh Zhi Ying and Olivia Yi from Chung Hua Middle School were named as consolation prize winners.
Club administrator Lion Phyllis Jong, who was also the organising chairperson for this year’s contest, presented prizes to the winners and certificates to all participants.
President Lion Alan Chee was also present. He was also accompanied by the club’s members and committee members.
The contest was held last weekend, with the participation of 14 students from several schools in the Belait District including Chung Hua School Kuala Belait, St John’s School, St James’ School, and Chung Ching School Seria.
With this year’s theme ‘Peace Through Service’, the event represents a long-running tradition for Lions Club International since 1988, in providing a platform for youth aged 11-13 across the world to share their artistic vision for peace.
Kimberly’s poster will advance through to district level, before it can actually compete on an international stage with similarly themed posters by students from other countries.
