Vietnamese man jailed one year for bribing security guards

A 31-year-old Vietnamese man who pleaded guilty to charges of bribing security guards was jailed for a year by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Fitri binti Kiprawi’s facts of the case stated that investigations by Anti-Corruption Bureau personnel into the July 5 incident, revealed that Phan Anh Duc, employed by a company had been found with a bottle of liquor by security personnel, and had been detained for bringing prohibited goods to the company premises.

The defendant bribed a security personnel BND40 to not take further action against him, and later offered BND120 to another security personnel to not report to the authorities. Both bribes were refused and the defendant was reported to the police, and later transferred to the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid presided over the case.
