Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) teamed up with its mosque’s Takmir committee to organise a Korban and Aqiqah ceremony to mark the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration yesterday.

UBD Vice-Chancellor Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz was on hand to distribute the sacrificial meat in the presence of senior officials of the university.

A total of 15 cows and two goats were sacrificed for this year’s celebration, and the distribution of meat was divided into two sessions, with the first for participants of the ceremony and the second for members of the public via a drive-through to ensure the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health (MoH), including social distancing, were observed.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Takbir, followed by the distribution of Korban and Aqiqah meat to the participants.

A group of volunteers, set up by the Takmir committee, also delivered the sacrificial meat to the underprivileged in Kampong Rimba.

The annual activity is aimed at enlivening the celebration among UBD students and Rimba residents and strengthening bonds within the Muslim community.
