A local and two Indonesian nationals were each fined BND100 after being caught littering a public area with cigarette butts recently.

The three individuals – Muhammad Iskandar Abdul Walid bin Matzin, Andik Giantoro and Filja Es – committed an offence under Section 12(1)(a), Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act in Kampong Menglait, Gadong.

The trio are required to settle their fines at the Finance Division of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department within seven days of the offence. Failure to do so will result in the cases being brought to court, where they may be slapped with a BND1,000 fine for the first offence, and BND3,000 and no more than three months’ jail for the second and subsequent offences.

The BSB Municipal Department urged the public to refrain from littering in public areas to maintain the cleanliness of the country.

Meanwhile, the public is urged to contact the Darussalam line 123, email to [email protected] or WhatsApp to 8333123 for any complaints.
