The Belait District Scouts Association’s (PPDB) new headquarters will provide new opportunities for the district’s scout members, Belait District Acting Scout Commissioner Mohamad Hatta bin Haji Suhaili said.

“We hope the new headquarters will be used to develop scouting activities and membership in line with the PPNBD’s (Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association) Strategic Plan in garnering 5,000 members by 2024,” he said. He hoped the new headquarters will help increase interest in scouting among the Belait District community.

The soft opening of the new headquarters along Jalan Maulana near Golden Jubilee Recreational Park, Kuala Belait, which serves as a training and development centre for scout members in the district, was held on Friday.

The ceremony also marked the 81st anniversary since the first scout group was formed in 1939 led by scout leader Salleh bin Masri along with their first headquarters located in Seria.

PPDB Local Association members, commissioners, council and guests from government agencies attended the ceremony.

The ceremony saw the handing over of scarves as part of the Messenger of Peace award to selected scout leaders by the Acting Scout Commissioner of the Belait District, which represents a World Scouting Initiative that encourages scouts to participate in community work. Deputy Chairperson, Local Association, L A Belait District Scout Association Chai Tze Yun; and Open Troop Seria Scout Leaders 3001 Jerry bin Junaidi and Noorhain binti Hussein were among those who received the scarf.

The ceremony concluded with the recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Doa Selamat by Belait Arabic School Assistant Scout Leader of Scout Group 3036 Sawardi bin Haji Mahadi.
