Cleaning all packages received is a good practise.
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar said this in response to a query regarding a report that traces of the coronavirus was found on the surface of the packaging of imported seafood and chicken.
On a report about a second wave outbreak in Beijing a few weeks ago, he said the infected workers droplets might have fallen on the packaging.
“If there is an infected person working, the virus can easily spread through droplets which fall on the packaging or food,” Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Md Isham said.
He said this was why buffets are still not allowed as when people talk, the droplets might fall on the food.
“There is also a report that the virus can last long or survive if it’s frozen, especially in cold climate. It is a good practice cleaning food packages. This is why the items collected by runners are isolated for three days before they are handed over to the owners,” the minister said.
