A 64-year-old local man was ordered to pay a BND2,000 fine or face three months’ jail in default of payment by the Intermediate Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to the charge of assaulting another man as a result of a road rage incident.

Judge Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Datu Juragan Laila Diraja Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Kefli heard from DPP Syazwani binti Jumat that Haji Sawal bin Sapar was driving his car with his son-in-law, his daughter and two grandchildren as passengers along the left lane of the road between Chung Hwa Middle School and Youth Centre on April 25, 2019, when he turned the indicator light signalling lane change.

However, the 54-year-old victim was driving his car on the right lane and passed the defendant’s car before the defendant could make the change.

The defendant tailgated the victim and overtook the victim and stopped his car, blocking
the victim.

The victim got out of his car and approached the defendant to ask why he had blocked his way.

The defendant punched the victim resulting in a broken tooth.

He attempted a second punch but the victim avoided it.

The defendant went back to his car and headed for home. The victim lodged a police report which led to the defendant’s arrest on April 28, 2019.

Defence Counsel Sheikh Noordin bin Sheikh Mohammad represented the defendant.
