Local man detained for cable theft

Personnel of Tutong Police Station of Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) detained a suspect who was allegedly involved in stealing cables owned by the government in several areas in the Tutong District.

According to the RBPF, police personnel caught the 36-year-old suspect, a permanent resident, digging for cables near an electric post along the Telisai Highway in Tutong.

Several tools and equipment used to steal the cables were seized as evidence. The suspect and evidence were brought to the Tutong Police Station.

The man can be charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code Chapter 22, whereby if found guilty will face imprisonment of not more than three years or fine or both. For the violation under Section 427 of damaging properties, the man if found guilty, will face imprisonment of not more than five years and whipping.
