The Brunei-Muara District in cooperation with Kampong Kapok Village Consultative Council and Lembah Bukit Tempayan Pisang Cooperative held a fruit festival at Pasarneka Pekan Muara yesterday to showcase a variety of local fruits and vegetables grown in Kampong Kapok. Brunei-Muara District Officer Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim attended the event as the guest of honour.

Lembah Bukit Tempayan Pisang Cooperative Chairman Haji Mohammad bin Haji Md Yassin said, “This festival isn’t just about showcasing local produce but also features a workout session, a drawing competition and a flower arrangement contest.”

He added that despite the event being held at the tail-end of the fruit season, he was happy to have “the cooperation from all parties” to make the fruit festival a success.

“Lembah Bukit Tempayan Pisang Cooperative was launched in 1993,” he said. “Within 10 years, the plantation had begun to bear fruits.”

For a 35-acre plantation that “is manned by 35 individuals”, he said he was proud of the accomplishment the cooperative has attained, and “the festival is a testament of their hard work”.
