The One Village, One Product (1K1P) Transformation Workshop came to a close at the PGGMB Building yesterday, with Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong attending as the guest of honour.
The workshop was held in cooperation with Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD).
Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District) at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) Salminan bin Haji Burut, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District) at the MoHA Abdul Walid bin Haji Matassan, district officers, acting district officers, senior officers at the MoHA, BIBD Deputy Managing Director Hajah Noraini binti Haji Sulaiman, BIBD Head of Government Relations and Special Projects Haji Mohammad Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah, and other senior BIBD officers attended.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa.
Salminan highlighted that the workshop is part of the five main phases of the 1K1P Transformation Course 2020 by MoHA in cooperation with BIBD in preparing entrepreneurs under the 1K1P programme in Brunei Darussalam.
He said the five phases include the 1K1P Transformation Bootcamp, the 1K1P Transformation Workshop, the 1K1P Product Improvement Training, the 1K1P Premium Product Showcase, and the 1K1P Premium Product In The Market.
Phase I – the 1K1P Transformation Bootcamp (from July 27 to 30) involved 35 entrepreneurs. They were exposed to knowledge that enhances identifying the strengths and weaknesses of their products, including using a SWOT Analysis approach.
Nineteen entrepreneurs from Phase I moved on to Phase II, which was the 1K1P Transformation Workshop from August 3 to 7. They were trained to prepare a financial plan, marketing and sale strategies such as branding, packaging and labelling, as well as redeveloping their products.
The course was implemented with an academic (classroom) and market concept, in the hopes of producing 1K1P products with better quality and viability, as well as attractive packaging that meets the standards of a 1K1P Premium Product.
“In the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) era, and with the advancement of digital innovation and the Internet of Things (IoT), 1K1P entrepreneurs are not exempt from the need to have knowledge and skills in digital form and automation of the use of more modern machinery,” Salminan said.
“Therefore, this course has been designed by taking into account these needs, including digital technology innovation in assisting business development and online product marketing as well as the use of smart concept payment systems such as BIBD Payless (QuickPay and mobile banking). This will indirectly provide 1K1P entrepreneurs who are more confident, knowledgeable and skilled to compete at the local and ASEAN regional levels.”
The MoHA hopes the course will benefit participants, in line with the direction of the 1K1P programme and MoHA’s vision of raising and acknowledging the efforts of Mukim and Village Consultative Councils and the community at grassroots level in producing products that have commercial value and viability. This will increase income and improve the livelihood of the community, as per Brunei Vision 2035.
Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar encouraged 1K1P entrepreneurs to remain consistent in their endeavours and to improve their products so they may one day achieve international recognition.
The event saw 35 1K1P entrepreneurs from Phase I receiving certificates of participation, before the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the MoHA and BIBD, represented by Salminan and Haji Mohammad Yusri. The event also saw the launching of the 1K1P Premium Product Prototype, prior to a tour of the 1K1P product display.
