The Belait District Branch of the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) issued a BND500 compound fine to a local company under the Minor Offence Act yesterday.

JASTRe said Gold United Sdn Bhd was fined as they were discovered to have left trash comprising plastic materials, leftover construction materials and wooden pallets in a public area at the Kuala Belait Light Industrial Area.

JASTRe noted it was a violation of the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30, Section 12 (1)(e).
The company was given seven days to settle the fine. Failure to settle will be forwarded to the courts. If found guilty, the accused will be handed a further BND1,000 fine or one
month’s imprisonment.

For subsequent offences, a penalty of BND3,000 or imprisonment of not more than three months will be levied.

JASTRe reminded the public and business owners to mantain the cleanliness of the surroundings.
