Companies, individual fined for illegal dumping

Three local companies and a local man were issued with compound fines for offences under the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30 during routine monitoring by the Law Enforcement Section, Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department.

During Operasi Bersih 14/2020 on July 29, Jimworks Sdn Bhd and Topcity Enterprise were issued BND200 compound fines each for disposing commercial waste in a public area around Jalan Telanai, an offence under Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30 Section 12 (1) (a).

Carserve Company was issued a BND500 compound fine for abandoning a vehicle in a public area in Jalan Telanai, a violation under the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30 Section 12 (1) (b).

Meanwhile, during routine monitoring on July 30, Haji Muhammad Norhadi bin Haji Shawal was slapped with a BND300 compound fine under the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30 Section 12 (1) (d) for the disposal of construction waste in a public area at Jalan Pasir Berakas.

The offenders have to settle their fines within seven days at the Finance Division, 3rd floor of the BSB Municipal Department. Failure to do so would result in a further fine of BND1,000, or a month’s imprisonment, for the first convicted offence.

For subsequent offences, the penalty is a fine of BND3,000 and a prison term of up to
three months.

The public and business owners are reminded to adhere to the stipulated regulations in maintaining standards of hygiene and cleanliness.

The public is reminded not to throw rubbish in public areas.
