Clean up campaign gathers 185kg of plastic bottles, 75kg of non-plastic material

Some 185kg of plastic bottles and 75kg of non-plastic material have been collected at by the Brunei Darussalam Scout Association (PPNBD) which continued with another beach cleaning campaign in conjunction with the annual World Environment Day 2020 at the Muara Recreational Beach, as well as in conjunction with PPNBD Brunei-Muara District’s ‘Earth Tribe: Plastic Tide Turners Challenge Badge’ programme.

PPNBD is holding a series of cleaning campaigns at five beaches with the aim of collecting over 200kg of plastic bottles and non-plastic waste materials.

The first campaign was held on June 14 at Kampong Sungai Liang Beach. A campaign was held at the Seri Kenangan Beach in the Tutong District on July 5.

Scouts Chief Commissioner Haji Awang Badar bin Haji Awang Ali was present to launch the cleaning campaign at the Muara Recreational Beach.

Deputy Scout Chief Commissioner cum Youth Programme Commissioner Junaidi bin Haji Hussin, Chairman of the Temburong District Scout Association Haji Jalani bin Haji Ibrahim, Temburong District Scout Commissioner Jurkarnain bin Hussin were also present, along with district scout commissioners, assistant district scout commissioners, scout leaders, assistant scout leaders, adult in scouting, rover scouts and scout members.

Participants recited the ‘Earth Tribe: Plastic Tide Turners Challenge Badge’ programme pledge prior to the start of the cleaning activity.

The programme, organised by the Temburong District Scout Association, aims to instil a sense of love and care for the environment in everyday life, especially the beauty of beaches as one of the matters that needs to be applied in youth as part of life-long learning.

PPNBD held several activities such as planting saplings and beach cleaning to mark World Environment Day 2020 themed ‘Time for Nature’.

PPNBD started the World Environment Day celebration on June 5 with the planting of durian saplings, honey bananas and sugarcane around the association’s headquarters in Kampong Lekiun of the Temburong District.
