A 21-year-old local man was sentenced by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to a month’s jail after he pleaded guilty to filing a false police report.

Magistrate Mohammad Marzuqi bin Sabtu heard from Deputy Public Prosecutor Hajah Siti Mu’izzah binti Haji Sabli that Muhammad Rafi bin Haji Roslan went to Berakas Police Station at 4am on August 8 where he lodged a police report saying that he was robbed by a man unknown to him at Kampong Delima on Jalan Kebangsaan Lama.

The report further stated that he was assaulted by the man who also took his phone and some cash.

The police immediately carried out investigations, went to the scene as claimed by the defendant but found nothing related to what he had claimed.

The defendant was further questioned and the defendant confessed to making up the hoax to avoid his brother being angry with him.

Investigations revealed that the defendant had in fact come across a man on a social media platform where he made an arrangement to pay BND100 to the man in return for sexual services of a woman made available to him.

As the defendant met up with the ‘pimp’, he gave his phone as collateral while he left to get the money.
