74th Independence Day of Pakistan celebrated

The High Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Brunei Darussalam held a flag-hoisting ceremony at its chancery in Kampong Lambak Kanan to commemorate the 74th Independence Day of Pakistan yesterday.

The celebration started off with the recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Doa Selamat during Subuh prayers.

A large number of Pakistani expatriates attended the event where High Commissioner of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam Major General (Rtd) Abdul Aziz Tariq hoisted the national flag of Pakistan and read messages from the President and Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The high commissioner highlighted Pakistan’s history, its achievements while emphasising its core policy of peaceful co-existence, belief in collective prosperity and respecting the sovereignty of all countries.

He also highlighted several facets of the strong Brunei-Pakistani fraternal relations rooted in common faith, shared values, mutual respect and cultural affinities.

A dinner reception was held at the high commission residence, where members of the Pakistan-Brunei Friendship Association were invited.

The high commissioner advised the Pakistani expatriate community to remain loyal and work hard for the prosperity of their host country.

He thanked His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the government for hosting a large number of Pakistanis.
