Twelve local businesses were issued with compound fines amounting to BND2,000 during Operasi Merati from August 17-23 for violating the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Among the violations found were restaurant staff not using face masks in preparing and handling food, and staff not wearing face masks in barber shops and beauty salons.
Some businesses were also found not conducting temperature checks or providing hand sanitiser to patrons as well as conducting buffet without adhering to the ministry guideline. A total of 38 business premises were inspected including food establishments, Internet cafés, beauty and health.
Health enforcement officers also advised customers to utilise the BruHealth app and practise social distancing.
The ministry reminded business owners, managers and staff to comply with the regulations.
