A local man yesterday pleaded guilty to charges of mischief and theft with enhanced punishment while denying another set of charges in the Magistrate’s Court.

Acting Senior Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Yusof ordered for the sentencing to be handed to Haji Muhammad Badrul Kamal bin Haji Shari after the trial’s conclusion.

DPP Syafina binti Abdul Hadzid revealed the defendant damaged a car after 2.10pm on March 8.

The defendant parked his car next to another vehicle at Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque.

He looked into the windows and saw a handbag which he wanted to take.

He broke the car’s rear window by throwing pebbles, repairs of which would cost about BND350.

He took the handbag, found BND160 folded by a money clip and left.

At this point in time, the defendant had been convicted, and the convictions are in full force and effect, with charges of theft on July 2014, December 2017 and January 2018, making him liable to an enhanced punishment.

However, the defendant denied a charge of mischief by causing damage to another car at the car park of Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque sometime between July 3 and 10.

He also claimed his innocence towards stealing a watch and a bag containing compact discs from the car that day, a theft charge carrying enhanced punishment for committing a theft offence while holding a conviction of theft in full force and effect.

The court adjourned the case to July 30 for trial dates to be fixed.
