Police detains three for illegal logging

Two locals and an Indonesian national who allegedly cut down Agrowood (Gaharu) from a forest in Kampong Puni in the Temburong District were detained last Sunday by Company ‘C’ Police Reserve Unit personnel under the Operation Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).

The suspects are aged 32 to 34, Police Superintendent and Acting Commanding Officer of Police Reserve squad Suhairi bin Haji Sukri told a press conference.

The suspects’ illegal activity was nabbed on a tip-off from the public as well as monitoring by the police.

Evidence seized included machetes, a chainsaw and carving tools believed to be used to cut down the Agrowood.

The suspects and evidence were taken to Bangar Police Station for investigation under Chapter 46 of the Forest Act.
