The Future Energy Lions (FEL) Brunei from Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd (BSP) and the Panaga Athletics Section (PANAS) of the Panaga Club held a ‘plogging’ activity along a stretch of the Panaga Beach in Seria recently.
Thirty participants split into two teams for the event, with each team jogging and picking up litter along a set route of three km, in opposite directions on the beach.
Marco Bonato, the co-creation lead at FEL, a volunteer network under BSP, said the activity represents of their many initiatives for a Plastic Free July, aimed at raising more awareness about the negative impact of plastics on the environment.
The activities include the War on Plastic Awareness, an initiative that serves to reduce single-use plastics by BSP; a series of beach-cleaning campaigns for July; and waste-and-recycling events conducted online.
“We started these activities during July, which we hope will help to galvanise and encourage more initiatives to raise awareness in caring for the surrounding environment,” said Bonato.
He added, “With FEL Brunei having more than 230 members and still growing, an event such as this is an opportunity where people can get involved in supporting in maintaining and caring of the environment, for all to appreciate in years to come.”
