Over 70 per cent attendance for Friday prayers

Majority of mosques and suraus received over 70 to 100 per cent attendance on Friday prayers from May 29 to June 16, according to the data gathered by the Ministry
of Health.

This was shared by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman during a press
conference yesterday.

The minister said attendance data of the congregation on five Fridays shows an increase from over 30,000 on the first two Fridays to over 40,000 on the last three Fridays.

Congregants aged 65 and above account to less than 2,000 congregants, while two third of the congregants during the Friday prayers were aged 15- 55.

For example, attendance on June 26 recorded 43,967 congregants. A total of 30,295 were aged 15-55 while the remaining 13,672 were 56-65 and above.

The minister urged congregants to remain patient and put trust in Allah the Almighty as well as continue to abide by the regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
