National flag lowered marking end of royal birthday celebrations

The giant-sized national flag was lowered at ceremonies nationwide to mark the conclusion of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 74th birthday celebrations.

In the Brunei-Muara District, the flag was lowered at the open area of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the heart of the capital yesterday.

Permanent Secretary (Security, Welfare and Law) at the Ministry of Home Affairs cum Deputy Co-Chairman of the National Committee for His Majesty’s 74th Birthday Celebration Mohd Amir Hairil bin Haji Mahmud was the guest of honour.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque Affairs Officer Ahmad Syafiq bin Haji Osman, and the singing of the national anthem.

Royal Brunei Navy personnel lowered the national flag and handed it over to the guest of honour, before the ceremony concluded with the recitation of Doa Selamat. Co-secretaries of the National Committee for His Majesty’s 74th Birthday Celebration also attended.

Meanwhile in the Belait District, the ceremony was held at the Menara Cendera Kenangan, with Belait District Officer Ramlee bin Haji Jamudin as the guest of honour. Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Penghulu of Mukim Liang Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin, LegCo member and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Labi Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput, mukim penghulus and village heads, as well as heads of department also attended.

Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque Imam Haji Alias bin Bakar led the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah. Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) personnel lowered the flag and handed it over to the Belait District Officer. The event concluded with a Doa Selamat recitation.

In the Tutong District, the ceremony was held at the open area of the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex in Pekan Tutong, with Tutong District Officer Shamsul Bahrin bin Haji Mohd Hussain as the guest of honour. LegCo members, department heads, mukim penghulus and village heads, as well as senior government officers and guests attended.

The ceremony opened with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa led by Kampong Kupang Mosque Bilal Mohammad Asyraf Syafiq Syazwan bin Reney, as well as the singing of the national anthem prior to the lowering of the national flag by RBPF personnel, who then handed it over to the Tutong District Officer.
