The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) urged the public to use online services for renewing vehicle licences and driving licences among others.

This was said by Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof during a press
conference yesterday.

The minister added that MTIC introduced the TransportBN application to bring convenience to the public by not having to go to service counters at the Land Transport Department (JPD) or the post offices to renew vehicle and driving licences.

“Alhamdulillah, 26,710 users have downloaded this application and it is hoped that the number will continue to increase,” said the minister.

The minister added that there are 243,844 active driving licence holders in Brunei. To date, 16,085 people renewed driving and vehicle licences online using the TransportBN application from March to June 2020 compared to 3,440 people in the same period in 2019.

“This shows an encouraging increase,” said the minister.

To update TransportBN, the minister said several improvements were made including the ability for the public to renew their licences which have been expired for more than a month from the original expiration date starting from July 1, 2020. This function also allows the public to pay late penalty charges online.

The minister said push SMS will be sent in stages to encourage the public to continue using the TransportBN app which can be downloaded via Google Play Store for Android users and App Store for iOS users.
