The Magistrate’s Court fixed July 11 to hand down sentence to a man who pleaded guilty yesterday to charges of public exhibition of obscene photos and criminal intimidation.
Abdul Majid bin Awang Haji Bini, 27, agreed to the statement of facts submitted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Fitri binti Kiprawi which revealed that the defendant had previously been in a relationship with the victim and that they parted ways while she was pregnant with their child in 2019.
In October 2019, the defendant threatened to circulate private photos of the victim out of spite by uploading them on a social media platform.
The victim filed a complaint with the Royal Brunei Police Force and the defendant received a stern warning.
In January, the defendant attempted to reconcile with the victim but was rejected. He then created several social media accounts under made-up names to publicly exhibit the private photos with the purpose of shaming the victim. He went as far as sharing the victim’s full name and other personal details.
It was also revealed that the defendant also tagged the account of the primary school where the victim was teaching to further embarrass her.
This led to the discovery of the accounts by the victim, who then confronted the defendant and asked him to remove the photos and delete the accounts.
The following month, the defendant again tried to reconcile with the victim and was again rejected. He then threatened to upload private videos of the victim, which led the victim to file a police report.
This month, the victim discovered two more social media accounts with her private photos, which she promptly reported to the police.
Investigations conducted by the police revealed that the defendant created fake social media accounts with the intention of publicly shaming the victim with her private photos.
