Lifejackets distributed to six primary schools

Six primary schools received lifejackets from the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), in a ceremony held at the Horizons Seafood Restaurant in the
capital yesterday.

Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof presented the lifejackets to the representatives of each school.

The selected schools were Saba Darat Primary School, Bendahara Lama Primary School, Sungai Siamas Primary School, Pehin Dato Jamil Primary School, Tanjung Kindana Primary School and Haji Tarif Primary School.

A joint initiative between the MPABD, MTIC and MoE, the contribution is hoped to inspire a safety culture among the 250 students from these primary schools, who use water transport on a daily basis.

Later, tokens of appreciation were presented to Beach Bunch, Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), for their sponsorship of the lifejackets.

The schools also received a contribution of face masks as part of the ongoing efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
