Laptops, Internet access for underprivileged students

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to support the decision by the Brunei Islamic Religious Council to supply 216 laptop computers and Internet access for underprivileged students at Arabic schools and Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah totalling BND179,640.

This was highlighted by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman at a press conference yesterday.

The minister said the third phase of the school re-opening will begin on July 4.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs through the Islamic Studies Department (JPI) will open hostel facilities for eligible students residing outside the district.

School authorities will be supplied with a health package including body temperature thermometers, face masks and hand sanitisers to support the call and guidelines by the MoH.

The ministry is also looking to supply fabric face masks to teaching workforce under it including underprivileged students.
