Personnel of Company ‘C’ Police Reserve Unit, Operation Department under the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) with personnel of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) foiled a smuggling attempt into the country during a routine patrol at the border of Sungai Terusan Pandam Kampong Junjongan on Wednesday. Acting Commanding Officer of the Police Reserve Unit Superintendent of Police Suhairi bin Haji Sukri said the incident took place around 11am whereby two suspicious individuals carried plastic packets to the riverbank using a boat.

Upon noticing the enforcement personnel, they ran leaving behind the boat and plastic packets. Upon inspecting the boat, several boxes of alcohol and three backpacks filled with cigarettes were found.

The contraband was brought back to the Limau Manis Police Station and handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) for investigation.

In a separate case, 275 cartons of cigarettes were uncovered during a patrol, also by Company ‘C’ Police Reserve Unit of the RBPF and RBAF, at Kampong Junjongan yesterday morning. From initial investigation, the smugglers were believed to have used jungle paths to avoid detection. The contraband was brought to the Kamong Ayer Police Station for investigation and handed over to RCED.
