Heavy rain was recorded on Thursday afternoon with the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) issuing Yellow Stage advising the public to be alert.
Several incidences of fallen trees and flash floods were reported in Kampong Putat, Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge, Kampong Tanjung Bunut, Kampong Sungai Akar, Jalan Batu Satu and Kampong Manggis Dua.
The public is urged to be extra cautious during flash floods, especially those in low-lying and flood prone areas.
The Public Works Department (JKR) urged travellers along the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge to take safety measures as an incident involving a fallen 15-metre tree had affected two vehicles. No injuries were reported.
The JKR in a press statement said the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) is taking action to avoid unwanted incidents.
It added that fallen trees near the Labu Estate area will be removed while road users were advised to obey the maximum speed limit of 70km/h during rainy days.
The FRD advised the public to always be alert while driving, avoid planting trees close to roads and to not park vehicles under huge trees, especially during the rainy season.
The BDMD also issued a warning that heavy and thundery showers are expected over inland areas and are likely to spread across the coastal and sea areas. Wind speed of up to 40km/h is predicted during heavy showers.
