With consent from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Muslims in Brunei Darussalam will observe the 1st of Zulhijjah, 1441 Hijrah tomorrow.
In view of this, the Hari Raya Aidiladha which usually falls on the 10th of Zulhijjah will be celebrated on August 1, 2020.
The announcement was made following the moon-sighting events held at different vantage points across the country yesterday.
Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) was assigned to sight the new moon of Zulhijjah which included representatives from Syariah Court Judges as well as officers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and the State Mufti’s Office, with cooperation from the
Survey Department officers.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman in his capacity as President of MUIB along with other officials discussed the matter at the MoRA building in Jalan Menteri Besar.
Also present were Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
This year, committee members conducted moon-sightings at the DST Tower of the DST Headquarters Building in Tungku Link Highway, Bukit Agok in Jerudong, Tanjung Batu in Pekan Muara, Bukit Lumut in the Belait District and Bukit Ambog in the Tutong District.
Health guidelines to perform the Sunnat Aidiladha prayer and sacrificial ceremonies will be announced by authorities in the coming days.
