A team from the Community Development Department (JAPEM) in the Tutong District distributed food rations to 35 houses in several villages of Mukim Rambai, affected by the
recent floods.

Led by Assistant Development Officer JAPEM Tutong District branch Muhd Ronnie bin Abdullah Labau, 37 food rations were distributed to areas in Kampong Benutan, Kampong Sengkuang, Kampong Belaban, Kampong Mapol, Kampong Supon and Kampong Lalipo.

Muhd Ronnie said most of the houses were flooded with water overflowing from the nearby river. It is JAPEM’s standard of procedures to help residents of villages affected by floods.

It served to ease the burden of residents at affected areas, where residents used boats to reach the main road, Muhd Ronnie said.

Acting Village Head of Kampong Benutan Haji Muhd Hairul Mazlan bin Haji Abdul Razak expressed appreciation on behalf of the villagers to all agencies involved.

He said with the distribution, it will save residents the trouble of going out to get their basic food supplies. He added that several initiatives have been carried out such as elevating roads to prevent floods.

Agencies involved were JAPEM, Tutong District Office, Village Consultative Council and the Fire and Rescue Department. Tutong District Officer Shamsul Bahrin bin Haji Mohd Hussain and Assistant Tutong District Officer Ajmin bin Haji Meludin also joined the initiative.
