ANAK Brunei Cycling Team continued training despite no competitions being held in Brunei and overseas due to COVID-19.The training adheres to Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) guidelines.
The cycling team received a boost through a jersey sponsorship from Grand Motors Sdn Bhd, the distributor of KIA cars in Brunei Darussalam, yesterday.
Grand Motors Sales Manager Jacqueline Koh handed over the sponsorship to ANAK Brunei Cycling Team Manager Richard Lingam.
Grand Motors Executive Director Haji Shaiful Rizal bin Pehin Dato Dr Haji Ahmad and Grand Motors Marketing Manager Precious Casao were also present.
ANAK Brunei Cycling Team coach Reduan Yusop conveyed his appreciation to Grand Motors for the sponsorship.
Speaking about the impact of COVID-19 on training, he said, “From January-March, we conducted normal training. For the following months, we trained while following guidelines set by the government. Currently we cycle in small groups while maintaining social distancing of one metre and not sharing equipment. We scan the BruHealth QR code before training so we know who are in the training.”
He added, “We received several invites for training camps and competitions but due to COVID-19, we stopped these activities. Nevertheless, we stayed focus and are preparing for 2021. We successfully recruited young cyclists into the team and now have eight cyclists below 17 years. The youngest is aged 11.”
