Movie buffs can look forward to the re-opening of cinemas on July 6, following an announcement that operators nationwide have been given the green light to resume business.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin announced this at the COVID-19 press conference at the Ministry of Health yesterday.
The Mall Cineplex Manager Md Faiq Ikhwan bin Md Som expressed excitement following the announcement yesterday.
“We are definitely sharing the same sentiments as the rest of avid Brunei moviegoers; being over the moon! After a nearly four-month closure, receiving the news was nothing short of wonderful. We are extremely thankful to be included in the de-escalation plan,” he said.
“The response was instantaneous. The moment they announced it on the slideshow, our cinema Instagram notifications started going off, non-stop. People were spamming our DMs with cheers, congratulations and all-round excitement. We’re grateful to have received overwhelming love and support from Bruneians on our announcement post and viral video too!,” he added.
The safety measures will include social distancing and stepped-up cleaning efforts, among others.
“The safety measures were implemented before we were shut, so our re-opening will be no different. All staff will undergo mandatory temperature checks, be required to wear a mask at all times, and ensure frequent usage of hand sanitisers.
“As for the customers, they will also get their temperatures checked, scan their entry with the BruHealth app and be provided hand sanitisers. Our ticketing system already offers a contactless QR code ticket service, and seating gaps will be implemented to ensure safe distancing,” Md Faiq Ikhwan said.
