The Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) Secretariat in collaboration with Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) will be conducting the Continuing Education and Training (CET) Programme for Kitchen Assistant and Restaurant Attendant.
The programme is open for local jobseekers who wish to start their career in the Hospitality Industry through two roles namely the Kitchen Assistant or Restaurant Attendant whereby these positions are highly demanded by the industry. Local jobseekers aged 18 and above with an academic qualification of TVET level and below are welcome to join the programme.
The CET programme aims to generate job-ready and competent locals aligned to the industry demand as well as increasing localisation in the relevant sector towards reducing unemployment in Brunei Darussalam.
Participants will go through basic skills training at the School of Hospitality and Tourism, IBTE, complemented with on-the-job trainings at identified host companies where they will be employed.
The programme will start on August 10 for four weeks, and is targetted to cater to 80 participants. Prior to starting their training, participants are required to go through walk-in interview sessions with various companies from the industry, where they will be offered a conditional offer of employment (COE) after completing their training.
The training fees for the programme will be borne by the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam via the 11th National Development Plan (RKN-11).
Furthermore, additional top-up incentives will also be provided to those who have completed their training and continue working for a duration of three years at the respective host companies.
To promote the CET programme, the MPEC Secretariat together with IBTE, organised a two-day engagement session with jobseekers at JobCentre Brunei (JCB), Beribi.
The objective of the session is to share with the public, particularly local jobseekers on the courses offered and its benefits as well as to increase awareness on the available job opportunities in the industry.
More than 200 attendees were present during the engagement held from July 14 and 16. Representatives from JCB were also present to assist attendees on JCB account registration and inform them on the services available at their premises, including CV and Interview Tips Clinic.
The engagement will be followed by walk-in interview sessions with eight identified companies who have given their support in providing job opportunities, such as Aminah Arif Restaurant, Ayamku Restaurant, Excapade Japanese Cuisine, Olive Tree Corporation, Shabulicious Restaurant, The Lanes Hotel, Pattaya Thai Food and Catering and Rasa Ceria Café.
Interested jobseekers are encouraged to attend the walk-in interview sessions on July 21 and 22 at JCB, with morning sessions starting at 8.30am until 11.30am and afternoon sessions at 2pm until 4pm. The walk-in interview sessions are also open to eligible members of the public who were not present during the engagement.
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the walk-in interview sessions will be held in accordance to the regulations and directives set by the Ministry of Health. The public is also required to comply with the safety measures incorporated at the premises.
