With the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Muslims in Brunei Darussalam will observe the first day of Zulhijjah on Thursday, July 23.
In view of this, the Hari Raya Aidiladha or the Feast of Sacrifice which falls on the 10th day of Zulhijjah will be celebrated on Saturday 1st August 2020.
The announcement was made following the moon-sighting events held in different vantage points across the country today to determine the start of the Zulhijjah month in the Islamic calendar.
Members from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) were assigned to sight for the new moon of Zulhijjah which included representatives from Shari’ah Court Judges as well as officers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the State Mufti Department, with the cooperation of officers from the Survey Department.
