18 art competition winners picked

Eighteen winners were recently announced for The New Normal BN Art Competition, organised by Kaleidoscope Studio and the United States (US) Embassy in Brunei Darussalam.

The art competition, which ran from May to June, drew a total of 86 entries.

Funded through the US Embassy’s Small Grant Programme, the project seeks to support local culture and arts by encouraging creatives of different age groups to capture unique moments and experiences during the ongoing global pandemic.

The winner of the 19 and above age group, under the theme ‘Stay home/ Social Distancing,’ is Yeo Ying Siu for her digital artwork titled ‘Connection.’ In second place is Richard Chin for his mixed media work titled ‘Weathering the Covid Storm,’ while in third place went to Muhd Hamizan bin Md Nor Iman for his poem Two Perspectives of The Coronavirus.

In the 11 years and above category for ‘Stay home/Social Distancing,’ Zhi Min Lim’s photograph earned him first place. In second place is Frayer with his Medi Bang Paint Pro work, while Mohd Khairul Aziman bin Haji Zamady claimed third place with his poem on the theme.

The overall winner for the 19 years and above age group under the theme of ‘Self Care/Health & Hygiene’ is Lu Shir Mao for his digital artwork, ‘The COVID Ritual’.

Second place in that category went to Nur ‘Izzati binti Haji Abu Bakar for her animated film, while Lim Jia Ying took third place for her digital illustration ‘Procreate.’

In the 11 years old and above age group under ‘Self Care/Health & Hygiene’, first place went to Louis Malik with his digtal artwork.

Chloe Yung Hui Syan with her mixed media work is in second place, while Raven Liu Jia Wen’s oil painting gained her third place.

In the 19 years old and above age group under the theme of ‘Human Nature/Balance’, Maziyah binti Yussof took first place for her digital illustration/animation, ‘Supermoon at the Mangroves.’ Second prize went to Khairunnasibah binti Haji Abdullah for her acrylic on canvas, while in third place is Armuba for his poem.

In the 11 years old and above age group, Siti Najwa binti Shamsul took first place with her pencil and acrylics work titled ‘Self-Care is a Process’.

In second place is Jon Angelo D. Pagulayan for his pen work on vellum board, while third place went to Zhi Min Lim’s make-up work on that theme.
