The Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced a 32-year-old local man to 16 months’ jail for trespassing into a government office for theft.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Aeny Zullizam revealed in court how Awangku Mohammad Azri bin Pengiran Muda trespassed into the office of the Municipal Department at Bangunan Komersial Pusat Perdagangan Bumiputera in the early hours of July 25.

Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman heard that the defendant started off from Brunei Hotel area walking towards Wisma building between 5am and 7am.

He went on the first floor and walked over to the Bumiputera commercial building using the bridge. He tried opening the office doors to no avail and went to the fifth floor by
the elevator.

The defendant tried opening the office doors when he came across one of the Municipal Department offices left unlocked and made his entry.

Inside the room he ransacked items to find valuables to steal.

He found a paper bag containing a plastic jug and took it.

A staff came in at 7am to find the office in disarray.

The staffer quickly informed the building’s security guards who then searched the office leading to the defendant’s arrest.
