UTB-MPK partnership set to reach new heights

A ceremony to mark the collaboration between Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and Village Consultative Council (MPK) of Kampong Tungku-Katok was held at Simpang 239, Jalan Tungku last Sunday.

Village Head of Kampong Tungku-Katok Haji Ismail bin Haji Rajab, Project Advisor of MPK Kampong Tungku-Katok Dato Paduka Haji Alikhan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yusof and Secretary of MPK Kampong Tungku-Katok Haji Salleh bin Mahmud were present. Leading the delegation from UTB was Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman.

Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Services) Haji Ady Syarmin bin Haji Mohd Taib, Dean School of Design Dr Ahmad Syamaizar bin Haji Sabli and Assistant Professor Dr Zulkefle bin Ismail were also present.

Prior to the ceremony, both parties discussed the concept designs of Gerai Tang Salangan project and the direction of collaboration between UTB and MPK Kampong Tungku-Katok. Among the discussion was the allocation of one acre for Gerai Tang Salangan which will house products from the MPK.

Students and staff from School of Design were invited by MPK Kampong Tungku-Katok last February to submit concept designs for Gerai Tang Salangan and the most suitable design will be chosen.

The collaboration between UTB and MPK Kampong Tungku-Katok will also go beyond Gerai Tang Salangan project. The site will become a live project for UTB staff and students to do research and conduct study through Environment, Leadership, Technopreneurship and Social Innovation (ELTSI) module.

It will also provide opportunity to build partnership within the local community and provides solutions to real world problems meeting UTB’s vision ‘A Global University Impacting Society’.
