Two suspects nabbed during routine patrol

Two suspects were produced before the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Magistrate’s Court suspected of being involved in criminal activities under Chapter 22 of the Penal Code.

Criminal and Traffic Investigation Officer at the Central Police Station Probation Inspector (P/Insp) Norfaez bin Sayang said the two suspects – Samsudin bin Md Aris, 42 and Pengiran Mohd Kamal bin Pengiran Haji Beswani, 45 – were detained during a routine patrol by officers of the Traffic Control and Investigation Department (JSKLL). During the patrol, the police personnel stopped a suspicious vehicle along Jalan Tutong Kilanas – Bunut.

He added that investigations revealed the vehicle had violated the road traffic act with an expired road tax and the driver had no driving licence.

Both suspects were brought to JSKLL, Gadong for an investigation during which police personnel found several metal grills used to cover drainage believed to be stolen by the suspects. The case was directed to the Investigation Officer at the Central Police Station for further action.

During the hearing, the first suspect denied any wrongdoing. The magistrate instructed the first suspect to be remanded at Jerudong Prison until the next hearing on June 16.

The second suspect who admitted to his crime was sentenced to a one-year imprisonment effective June 1.
