Six perish in three-vehicle crash in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU (BERNAMA) – Six people died in a crash involving three vehicles in Jalan Tungku near Kampung Membatu yesterday morning.

The crash occurred at 8.30am involving a trailer lorry, pickup truck and a saloon vehicle.

Following the three-vehicle collision the trailer lorry skidded and plunged into an 18 metre deep ravine while the two other vehicles were reduced to a wreck.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Director Kamarulzaman Malik Abdullah said they received an emergency call at 8.51am.

“The driver of the trailer, the married couple in the pickup truck and the three individuals in the saloon vehicle were seen pinned inside the mangled vehicles.

“Upon arriving at the scene of the crash, firefighters began to extricate the victims from their vehicles,” he said.

Kamarulzaman said the victims were sent to Lahad Datu Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
