The Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD) yesterday marked the 6th Tree Planting Day celebration held on June 1 annually.
The event was held at PPNBD’s Tree Planting Project in Kampong Sungai Mau, Belait District.
The Tree Planting Day, held since June 1, 2014 is meant to raise awareness on conservation among scout members and is part of the Messengers of Peace Initiative.
The Messengers of Peace Initiative is a global movement involving scout members with their projects contributing towards peace in their own country.
Chief Commissioner of PPNBD Haji Badar bin Haji Mohd Ali participated in the event. Tree Planting PPNBD Manager Haji Othman bin Durani, scout commissioners, district scout commissioners, scout leaders, assistant scout leaders and scout members were also present.
Chief Commissioner of PPNBD commended the commitment showcased by scout members, even though the country is facing the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We follow all guidelines, ensure cleanliness and practice social distancing as outlined by the Ministry of Health.
“The scout members fully support to continue conservation programmes.”
At the activity, 10 Tulong tree (Agathis Borneesis) saplings were planted. The saplings were supplied by the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT). Tree planting projects were carried out since 2008. To date, 3,230 tree saplings were planted comprising various trees such as Tulong, Semalar (Cantleya Carniculata), Kapur (Dryobalanops Rappa) and Kayu Putih.
