The Magistrate’s Court yesterday ordered the owner of a local restaurant to settle a BND2,000 fine or serve a month’s jail in default after the owner pleaded guilty to a charge of contravening the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order 2005.

DPP Hajah Siti Mu’izzah binti Haji Sabli revealed in court that Restaurant Ismahan stored non-certified Halal food items, three and a half packets of chicken wings weighing three kilogrammes at the restaurant premises at Sufri Complex on October 18, 2016 when enforcement officers from the Halal Food Control Division dropped in for a routine inspection.
