Philippines reports 518 new COVID-19 cases as total number reaches 23,000

MANILA (XINHUA) – The number of coronavirus cases in the Philippines rose to 22,992 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 518 more infections yesterday.

The DOH said in a daily bulletin that the number of recoveries further climbed to 4,736 after 99 more patients have survived the disease, and the death toll increased to 1,071 after six more patients died.

According to the DOH, 150 of the daily reported cases were in Metro Manila, 86 in the Central Visayas region in the central Philippines and 257 in other parts of the country.

The DOH added that 25 overseas Filipino workers repatriated by the government have also tested positive for the virus.
