A 36-year-old local man was slapped with a six months’ jail sentence after he pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to stealing and damaging CCTV cameras.

Acting Senior Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Yusof heard from DPP Hajah Siti Mu’izzah binti Haji Sabli that Mohamad Mumulyadi bin Haji Awang Muslim had set out on foot from home towards Kampong Sungai Kebun sometime in May with friends.

Along the way, the defendant noticed a pair of CCTV cameras installed outside a wholesale shop.

He pulled a nearby table and climbed to reach the two CCTV cameras which he then
pulled off.

He left the place and sold the cameras to a friend for BND7.

A shopkeeper noticed the missing cameras, checked the CCTV footage and found the defendant caught in action.

The police were alerted leading to the defendant’s arrest.
