A local man detained for violating an offence under the Road Traffic Act was found carrying a plastic bag containing crystal-like substances believed to be syabu or Methamphetamine.

Traffic police personnel found the vehicle parked at the roadside in the Kampong Junjongan area on Thursday during a routine patrol and approached the vehicle, according to a statement from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).

The man was arrested after he acted violently when asked to exit the vehicle for failing to produce a valid driving licence.

Investigations revealed the suspect did not have a valid driving licence and a further check inside the vehicle led to a plastic bag containing crystal like substances believed to be syabu.

Action was taken against the man for offences under the Road Traffic Act, driving without valid licence, illegal modification of the vehicle and failure to change vehicle ownership within 14 days.

The suspect was handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau for further investigations.

The statement added that the RBPF will frequently conduct patrols to ensure that road users comply with the rules and regulations.
