The Intermediate Court yesterday sentenced an Indonesian domestic helper to 16 months’ imprisonment, for abusing her employer’s three-year-old son.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihan Nabilah binti Haji Ahmad Ghazali informed Judge Harnita Zelda Skinner that Lisma Deti, 41, had been outraged at the child for refusing to take a nap one day, while his family members were at work.
The court also heard that the defendant had pushed the victim’s face into the mattress and hit him on the face with her hand. She then made the victim stand up, lifted him and threw him back onto the mattress.
The victim’s 36-year-old mother became aware of the defendant’s acts after checking footage from a CCTV camera installed at her home in Gadong, on May 19.
She immediately filed a police report, which led to the defendant’s arrest.
The defendant admitted to her abusive acts, and the victim’s injuries were confirmed by the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital after a physical examination.
