Local man pleads guilty to multiple extortions

A local man who had been indicted for extortion pleaded guilty yesterday in the Intermediate Court to all three charges. Mohammad Amirul Azem bin Ibrahim, 35, admitted to his wrongdoings as stated in DPP Hajah Siti Mu’izzah binti Haji Sabli’s charges of threatening a 26-year-old woman by claiming that an ice cream from the shop was found with a cockroach and extorting her for BND100 at 9.15pm on June 4 in Setia Kenangan, Kiulap.

The second count stated that the defendant had gone to see the same woman at the shop on June 5 and threatened to expose her by claiming that his daughter had to seek medical attention after eating an ice cream that had a cockroach in it and extorting her for BND150.

At 2.53pm on June 13, the third count stated, the defendant had gone back to the shop once again and told a 22-year-old that she had been dismissed from work and extorted BND100 from the victim.

Judge Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Datu Juragan Laila Diraja Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Kefli fixed August 3 to hand down the sentence to the defendant.
